Friday Night's The one Show on BBC1 had a piece about Black Throated Divers on the Scotish lochs. It explains how, when the lochs were made into reservoirs in the '30s, the water levels fluctuated so much that the bird's nesting habits were disrupted. When the population fell a solution was found - floating islands to provide nest refuges. The system is working well. Nice scenes of Scottish landscape as described in Great northern?. No signs of THAT species breeding, and no signs of the dreaded Jemmerling either.

the piece starts about 25mins in. Once again apolagies to those who cannot get the BBC.
