As a child I used to haunt the local library every other Saturday in the hope that a different S&A would appear. My mother still had her 1930s copies of Swallowdale and Missee Lee that she read to me when I was 4 or 5. I then read the others in the order in which I found them. It took years before I found Secret Water and completed the whole series. I *had* to take out at least one S&A book every time I went the library and as they had several copies of Pigeon Post that was probably read most after Swallowdale.
