When I was a mature student at the University of Essex in the 1990s Hugh Brogan was lecturer in American History, I took courage one day and knocked on his office door and asked him to sign my copy of the biography which he duly did (sadly I know longer have it due to divorce and moving house!) We chatted about AR and I was so pleased to discover the WH was his favourite, as it has alway been mine.
