I see that your favourite line nicely characterises Nancy. My favourite line is thought by my favourite character, Dot, as she falls asleep at the beginning:

'A smell of new-mown hay drifted from the meadows on the further side of the river. "There isn't a lovelier place in all the world," thought Dorothea. London last night, and now Beckfoot. The summer holidays had begun.'

Okay, it's not a line but a sequence, but it's still perfect.
