Some comments about land ownership I recall from various books:
In a letter to his mother (see 'Signalling from Mars') AR says he has bought the 'shooting rights' to a patch of land near his house. In other letters he delights in buying a house in the Lakes and how much land comes with it; he describes the areas where the boundary runs, in detail.
Quotes:
"Your son is now a Lake Country landowner once again."
"Lake frontage round here is valued at diamonds per inch."
None of that seems to suggest AR took a casual/illegal approach to trespassing, though we know he did enjoy the gypsy way of life in many other ways. He wrote for a magazine called 'The Tramp' and read the works of George Borrow on Romany culture. I think he could speak Romany too...?
