It seems that Dan Stevens has been cast as Captain Flint in the upcoming S&A film. He has recently appeared in Downton Abbey.
Which, if the producers want to get their money back, is a good reason for casting him. Although he looks a lot too young to me. I always had him, mentally, as being in his forties, probably late forties.
One question I always had at the back of my mind was- what did he do in the 14-18 war? I always sort of assumed that Bob Blackett might have died in the Spanish Flu epidemic, but Jim would have been very much of an age to be in the trenches. Of course there were many other jobs he could have had- even being a foreign correspondent. Somehow I don't see him doing a Whitehall desk job but stranger things have happened on land. Whatever the irreality, he had enough to write 'A Rolling Stone's First Cruise' (too convoluted to work, but please humour me).
