I think that AR's chart originates from an Admiralty Chart. It would make sense in the story
as Admiralty Charts would be the mapping that Commander Walker would have to hand.

It would also be convenient for AR as he would have either Admiralty Charts, or charts
derived from Admiralty Charts (like Stamfords), to hand when exploring the area himself
before writing the story.

The land shapes HAVE changed enormously. When the dykes were rebuilt after the 1953
floods, they were not always put back in the same place, and some of the breached
dykes were never repaired. In recent times the saltings have suffered massive erosion.

In addition, the coastline including Flint Island, is moving westwards!
