Of course Peter, what is most important is the stories themselves. I do have various sets, in hardback and paperback, one of the paperback ones being for reading only!
I was brought up to have respect for books, not just their content, but the physical object too. Not to turn a page from the middle but the corner, not to lick you finger to turn a page (disgusting!), not to 'break' the spine (I even feel this way about paperbacks, when I browse in a charity or second-hand bookshop the first thing I look at is the state of the spine!) Don't write in books, though when I went to university this habit fell somewhat by the wayside.
