Don't write in books, though when I went to university this habit fell somewhat by the wayside.
I never wrote in books- the most I did was use highlighter when researching things like goverment documents, But my dad wrote in books a great deal. And I have to say that as a result his copy of 'Post D' by John Strachey, in which my dad marginally wrote of his time as a fire watcher, made one of my favourite books even better.
