I completely agree. PM was the first book I owned but it was also my introduction to the series.
I liked the complementary yet cosy relationship between the D's and the Amazons. I later read most of the rest of the series in library book form. For a long time I resented the intrusion of the Swallows into that self-contained relationship.

I enjoyed PP. It introduced elements of the science and electricity which were beginning to fascinate the ten-year-old me. I still have my "lab-book" in which I noted the intense blue solution that results from adding ammonia to copper sulphate. Thank you, Captain Flint.
