Interesting to read the interplay of favoured characters, lifelong passions and love of place with people's own stories in the nomination of favourite books.Then there is a negative reaction to the 'stories':PD, ML &GN, for a long time I've regretted that AR didn't stick with the formula he experimented with in "Their Own Story" in which the stories are spun in the saloon of the old wherry in the dark of December.
My favourites follow the familiar pattern: WH because of the Ds and because I love the winter snowscape and exploring on skis;PM because it's so lucid in its capture of the Lakes in summer and the joy of boats but above all because of the relationship between Nancy and the GA and finally SW because of the Straights of Magellan and sailing through a field.
