Then there is a negative reaction to the 'stories':PD, ML &GN

The only one of those I can still re-read is PD, specifically the beginning with Peter Duck spinning his yarn in Lowestoft, and especially the sail down channel which I always found fascinating because it felt (and of course was) real. And 'Peter Duck! Peter Duck!' shouted in the night did send a shiver down the spine. But the island was a bit 'Boy's Own'ish. And I never wanted to read Boy's Own- I was more Biggles. But then, I never liked football either.

And AR was never John Buchan. Thank heaven.
