It was at the ARS inaugural meeting in Bowness in June 1990 that I was introduced to Taqui by Lucy Batty, the owner of Bank Ground Farm. As is usual when meeting somebody for the first time the conversation went like this; “Hi, how are you? Where do you live?” I asked Taqui this question and she replied “I live in central London, but you probably won’t know it” Try me, I said”. “I live in Judd Street which is”………… And there I interrupted to say “Near St Pancras Station”. She looked surprised that I knew the location. I told her that before I was married and moved out of London I lived with my parents in Charrington Street, which if you know that part of London you know that Charrington Street is between Euston Road and Mornington Crescent, which of course she knew. “You obviously also know Cromer Street” This was only 200/300 hundred yards from Jessell Court, where Taqui lived. “Yes I do” she said. ”Then you’ll be surprised to learn that is where my maternal family comes from”.

Many years later Taqui invited me to tea; and as Roger says not at all sophisticated but a very nice lady. I did get to meet Brigit and John Sanders at their White House home in Nibthwaite home before they moved to North Devon. I never got to meet Susie or Mavis although I did correspond with them both over the Bank Ground Farm Visitors’ Book of 1928.

My Mother's brother used to sell newspapers outside the old St Pancras Station and to supplement his pension was also a chimney sweep. She knew the paper seller but not the chimney sweep!

Regarding Martin H’s posting; Brigit Altounyan married John Sanders also a very nice gentleman who always treated me like an uncle. Val and I stayed with Brigit and John at their home near Bideford in North Devon on two occasions when we used to travel down to the South-West’s Regional AGM. Since Brigit's sad death I believe John re-married, but where he lives, if he still lives, I don't know. Somebody in TARS will know.
