in the P.G. Wodehouse school stories, there are 'day boys', many of whom switch over to being boarders.

I went to a Public School (St Paul's in Hammersmith) which was largely a day school (about 650 boys altogether) but there were about 70 boarders, of which I was one, in two houses. This was the whole point, as my parents had moved from London to Geneva but wanted me to go to school in England.

Boarding in London was fairly special- I think it was rather good. No walks in the country, but healthy walks from Hammersmith to HMV and Dobells on Saturdays.
