There are many fewer Public Schools in England than there were 30 years ago, and those that have survived have adapted. I have some knowledge of the two Brighton schools through athletic coaching.
Brighton College became mixed and takes a large number of day pupils, Having said that they have just opened a magnificent new boarding house and there are more boarders now than at any time in the past. Weekly boarding (going home for the weekend) is popular and they offer a good number of sporting and other scholarships.
Roedean have remained a traditional girls boarding school with a small number of day girls. They have catered increasingly for overseas oupils and pupils whose parents are overseas, and the school has an international flavour. They have just finished a huge refurbishment of the boarding houses.
Service families are given a 20% discount. Their situation high overlooking the English Channel is magnificent (and very windy) and must be attractive to somebody looking for a traditional English school.
