Mike and Adam - I think there has been a misunderstanding here. My question to Peter C was rhetorical and and was intended merely to catch him out on his logic. I was trying to apply the rules of syllogism and was not for one moment implying that Peter's parents actually were cruel. I put it to you that if a Tarboarder uses a phrase like "the special cruelty of the middle classes" then misunderstandings are bound to occur (because for me that phrase is "near the knuckle"), and 'class' is always a difficult topic on Tarboard. Nevertheless, if offence has been caused, I apologise.
