In an excellent article in praise of Dorothea, published in "Mixed Moss" in 1995 Charlotte Ryton makes a strong case for Dorothea attending a day school. She suggests that the Callums made their home among the academics who lived in Bloomsbury, Highgate or Hampstead and she probably attended one of the excellent north London girls' schools, possibly South Hampstead High or North London Collegiate.
Charlotte Ryton draws attention to the close relationship of the Callum children and suggests that this was due to Dick attending a day prep school so that they had year round contact — at least until Dick went to boarding school at 13.
As a day girl, Dorothea would still have had to return from the holidays with a quarantine certificate, as I did at my state grammar school.
