I think Peter H is correct in his recollection that we had agreed that it was most likely, based on the train connection clue, that Dick was based at a school to the north of London and Shrewsbury was a prime candidate. But there were other possibilities such as Repton.
Rugby (AR’s old school) was discounted as Dick would have joined the train there. Most trains from London that stopped at Crewe also stopped at Rugby.

Whilst casting around in London for possible prep. schools, it should be remembered at this time the Northern Line (as with others) was still growing. By the end of 1926, the line had reached Morden, Edgware and Highgate. But this Highgate is now called Archway and the new Highgate is part of the extension that took over the old GNR later LNER line to Mill Hill East and Barnet in 1940.
Some prep schools that existed in the l920/30s are no longer in existence today. However those that acted as feeders to the major public schools still seem to be thriving today. Peter C mentioned Colet Court as a major feeder for St Pauls, based in South London, I think The Hall school performed the same role in North London.
