Regarding the Decca advert advocating after sunset, I didn't think you were allowed to cruise after sunset. Indeed, the Herbert Woods rules state:

"NO Cruising after sunset

Do not cruise at night or in conditions of poor visibility. Hire cruisers are not fitted with navigation lights and you are not insured for cruising at night.

You should find safe moorings at least 1 hour before sunset."

To be honest, these days, if you are still sailing after sunset in high season, you will have to drop your mud weight in a safe place in a broad because all the moorings will have been taken up by then!
