I can also imagine that AR transported a piece of geography that he had encountered as he describes it from anywhere in his travels, including Russia (oops, I didn't mean to open the search area quite like that). Swallowdale is a real stand alone piece of terrain that could be plunked on the side of any hill and linked with a creek to any lake.
