Somewhere I have read a reference to an article 'These Books are Royal Favourites' in (I think) a Daily Mail Annual for Boys and Girls.
The Queen Mother bought a Ransome book from Bumpus (remember that wonderful bookshop opposite Selfridges?) and paid cash! Ransome checked!
