The Puffin bio of Arthur Ransome on the back cover of my 1968/1983 edition of Winter Holiday has “Arthur Ransome, C.B.E. 1953, Hon. Litt D. (Leeds), Hon M.A. (Durham)”; the Durham one of course that he told Jonathan Cape not to mention.
