Most yachts have a GPS system with its own satellite receiver, and charts that display on a screen (even an iPad) but sailors with any sense also carry paper charts, keep a careful log, and have a book which reminds them how to use their sextant!
Certainly that makes sense. I know nothing practical about small boat navigation, but in my car I have a Tom-Tom GPS set and a set of paper maps. I wouldn't expect anything less on a boat.
