Duncan. I agree about Cockshot Point. I have long suspected, from the text of SA when Roger climbs to the top of Darien, that the raised part of Cockshot Point with the trees was the inspiration. Then Titty says something about let's have tea where we can see the island and they go to the edge of the cliff. Maybe the cliff was an afterthought in the second draft.
For what it is worth, I have written a piece for Moss suggesting that the sail from Storrs on the day he wrote 'Started SA' in the diary, when he passed Ramp Holme, Esperance, Parson Wyke and Cockshot Point round to Rio gave him the first glimmerings of the SA setting.
