Roger - at first I was surprised by your question about sandshoes (we must be of a similar age), but then thought about my childhood. My maternal grandparents lived in a seaside resort, and we made regular visits in the late 1950s early 1960s, so I saw such things for sale on the seafront stalls and in the shops (and I have a vague memory of actually wearing some!)
