Under UK copyright law the term 'Fair dealing' occurs and this allows copying for 'Private and research study purposes'. I cannot see any objection to you giving your wife a copied illustration for her birthday. If you were to offer it for sale, that would be an entirely different matter, or if you made multiple copies.
That said, may I suggest you try to get an early (pre WW II) copy for present purposes, for as the plates were reused they image became more and more degraded. I have seen some terrible fairly recent images.
It is some years since I handled the originals, but I suspect they were 25% larger than the reproductions and if you have a good image it will improve with enlarging. Finally, if you can match the faintly cream paper, rather than pure 21st century white, you should have a lovely gift.
