Ownership of Wild Cat Island

Apologies if this has been discussed before but I am intrigued about this.

It is not made clear in the books who owns Wild Cat Island. In SA Nancy says "It is called Wild Cat Island. Uncle Jim called it that, because it belonged to us." Does this infer it is/was owned by the Turners/Blackets?

If so did the Swallows, probably Mary Walker via the Jacksons,get permission to camp there?

I also note that Nancy said "belonged" not "belongs".

If it belonged to someone else who? Dixons' farm is the nearest land.
