I see that Amazon UK has a copy with a dust jacket for a hundred and fifty quid, in addition to the NZ one mentioned above. That's the sort of price his children's books seem to be going for these days.

I'm a bit surprised to see any available at all, to be honest. I tried for about three years to find a copy of the sequel, Squirrel's Island (which was published fifteen years later. Island of the Pines is one of his earlier books, and I think a better one -- his later books seemed to be more episodic in structure, with less of a unified story.) Anyway, I tracked down a copy in the British Library, then found the present copyright-owner (in the US), and received permission to allow the Library to make me a scan of the book. So that's how I got it. Mind you, that wasn't exactly cheap either -- but less than buying a used copy. I've seen two on eBay since then, and the last one sold in the UK last week for eighty-four quid....
