Fascinating film, Jock.
Indeed it is. Great that you found it and gave us the link. It has that authentic 1930s feel to it- probably the best example of a railway film from that time being 'Night Mail' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkLoDg7e_ns
Lovely clips including the lamented Doric Arch at Euston.
The most fascinating thing about that two second shot is the dirt- the stone is completely black, totally encrusted with soot. It's always a bit surprising to see images from that time in the cities, although I remember seeing London like that after the war, and even the smogs in the '50s. It's so easy to forget- there really has been such a thing as progress. And the journey to the lakes these days, on a Virgin trains Pendolino, is so very quick and quiet... Looking at Oxenholme station on Google Street View, there's a Pendolino in the station, alongside the great brick wall so well illustrated by AR in 'Letting Fly'.
