My favourite Loon moment was on a small lake in Ontario's Kawartha district. I was sailing in a very small one person boat in a very light wind so barely creeping along.
The loons seemed quite accepting as I came slowly and unthreateningly closer. I was able to get within about ten yards or less of a parent and chick. I was able to see the parent disgorge a small fish for the chick to eat. Even then they did not panic at my proximity but paddled away faster than I was sailing.
