The rivers on the Broads can vary greatly, and while the trees can make problems on the upper Bure, the lower reaches and the Thurne and the Ant are much more open. There is a well-supported 'Three Rivers' cruiser race and there is an active sailing club in Horning. 'Flash' and her sisters are less than 18 ft in length.
I have been aboard a wherry yacht sailing from Wroxham, and a "Flash sister" sailing at Horning, a 'Teasal-type' on the Thurne and lower Bure, and enjoyed good sailing, though not as good as on Barton Broad where I was allowed to sail a 'Teasel-type'.
I think it depends on the timing: weekends are always busy in the season, but there are fewer cruisers and more yachts than there were in the 70s and 80s.
