You can sail on the Broads without terrible trouble. If you want to go through a narrow part, and the wind is against you there are two options:
1) tack every 6 seconds
2) use the quant
It isn't perfect, but you can get by quite happily.
The trees do pinch your wind, but these broads yachts have high masts for their size, compared to sea craft, and you just have to remember there's no reason to be in a hurry...
