Some thoughts about Roger's plan. This is based on my grandparents' house which was an old one with some modern conveniences added in the early 20th century.
1. Would there have been a downstairs toilet in the front hall. If there was one I would have expected it to be for the servants near the kitchen.
2. I would also have expected to see a connection between the servants' quarters and the main house so that they would not have to use the "posh" front stairs to make up and clean the bedrooms.
3. Having the front door on a narrow gable end of the house is very unusual.
4. Having a box room on the ground floor is not what I would have expected.
