I did post about this before, expressing my surprise that there was no Leeds accent!

When we realise his family's middle class background (father a university don, etc) it isn't really surprising. And he always hung around with similar families like the Collingwoods, had a prince to stay over, etc.

What I wonder is whether he moderated his accent when socialising with the working classes, as he enjoyed doing (see 'Bohemia in London', or his references to pubs in Cumbria).
