My parents lived and worked overseas from about 1950 to 1970. They then retired to the Isle of Man where the joke was, "You are now arriving in the Isle of Man, please set your watches back ten years".

As a result they definitely had out dated attitudes which I noticed in my late teens and early 20s.

Later I moved to Canada and listened to a radio program for British immigrants that was presented by someone who had come in the 1960s. It was very quaint. However, I know many of my attitudes about the UK are fossilised in the 1980s and things are sometimes quite strange there for me now.
