For what it's worth, those chimney positions make good sense with the proposed internal plans. Curious that in the only published picture that shows most of Beckfoot, in PM, AR stuck one each on the ends of the living and the kitchen block, and nowhere else.

It suggests to me that the sketch was of a typical house, not a particular one, and that AR didn't really attach much importance to the internal arrangement of the house.

After all, in terms of the books the 'functional' features were CF's study being on the ground floor, the rose trellis leading up to the Amazons' room on the first floor, and the stable yard with the pigeon loft and an internal passage where the bell could ring and cook could drop the dinner service with a crash... And an entrance hallway with a staircase.
