I think this is a case where we are simply not going to agree. My own personal experience in life has led me to distrust more and more all these sweeping and stereotyped generalisations about nationalities and 'classes'. It's a case of 'nature v. nurture' and as regards accents I believe that nurture is key. I agree with Luke Dolman that 'background, where they were educated and so on' are the key factors, particularly 'and so on' which contains infinite variables.
