Ah, but with *that* wardrobe and *those* coats, it was home, and I was peeking out.
Across the lobby was a very large mirror and I could (dimly) see myself peeking back. On the floor by the mirror was a box for the motor-generator that provided DC for the Murphy radiogram next door; my parents had bought it when we lived in Sheen, which must have been DC, but this house was in Kensington, which was presumably up to date with AC. I didn't have a clue about AC and DC, the box just hummed quietly into life when somebody switched on the Murphy.
Ah... Horn needles, with their lovely needle sharpening gadget... You pull on the string and the memories come tumbling out.
