Being in the very fortunate position of having read two of Jon's adventures, I found them both excellent stories. There is danger, self-reliance, care for the environment and villains who are routed in the end.
There are adults who listen to the youngsters, believe them, and act accordingly, which I think would be important to young teeners. Throughout them there is an optimistic tone, which I think is also important. I know that Jon has more books planned, and I am looking forward to reading them.
