The trouble is if the film is made (I'm beginning to wonder if it will be) and if the plot is changed for the sake of the making it 'bankable' then those drawn to read the books will be disappointed, all the additional parts to make it more 'box office' will be missing and the new reader will blame the book not the film.
Adapting books for films (and TV) is always difficult, it is rare that it works to the satisfaction of either audience - perhaps those that have read the books should never see the film and those that have only seen the film should never read the books!
