Teddy was a Colin Archer design. (He was Norwegian-born, of Scottish emigrant parents.) Archer dominated Norwegian small-ship design for decades. The 'double-endedness' is a signature part of his designs, used almost invariably as he considered them safer than transom-sterned vessels. He designed a highly-successful range of lifeboats for which he was highly respected, but his most famous vessel was undoubtedly Nansen's Fram.
Teddy, under Tambs' command, won the first Trans-Tasman race (Auckland to Sydney -- the hard way) on handicap in 1931. She was unfortunately wrecked on Challenger Island NZ the following year, on board being Tambs, his wife, and their two small children. Happily, all were rescued safely in due course.
