In my own defence, Alan, I think what you've said confirms my theory rather than "ruins" it.... If the book had been renamed it might well have been because the publishers knew a film of the same name was on its way, and, suspecting it would bear only marginal resemblance to the book itself, decided to remove any link between the two by changing the title.
And as you yourself said, "the film is not true to the book", which rather supports my theory....
