Yewdale for Udal sounds very possible, Andy.
When I was writing an article for Mixed Moss, speculating on the origin of Dundale in PP. I was kindly reminded by the editor that it could well be Dunnerdale - in the next valley west (the Duddon – well know to AR).
If Dunnnerdale is said quickly it does sound like Dundale.
Perhaps there are other clues in the phonetics of AR's names.
