The only realistic way of seeing things exactly as AR saw them is to look at his photographs.
We have seen several pictures that were used as a basis for the pictures he drew, which were caked his “Hollywoods”. There must be many more which shew the scenery, artefacts and locals in the archives - I would hope.
Perhaps someone could use them as a basis for a book or put them online depending on the agreement of the Literary Executors.
Otherwise there are several books on the topic of lakeland past - or you can purchase old picture postcards of the period. It is fascinating what the later will turn up – I have just purchased a stereo view of a strange wooden building at Waterhead, Windermere in the 1890’s. More curiously it was taken by a New York photographer.
