Amazon/Scarab did have a 'skeg' at the stern, which is like a very short version of Swallow's long keel. It protects the rudder and aids steering a little. Some older boats had a skeg as deep as the bottom of the rudder blade. Others not so much.

Have a look at the plans of Scarab in The Picts and the Martyrs as that will show the keep protrusions.
