Mavis now has 'Amazon' painted on her transom. For years she was at the Steamboat museum, but recently has been at the Ruskin Museum. Still there I think.

From a photo I got from the Ruskin Museum website I can see the skeg (painted red, as is her underside). I estimate it to be 6 to 8 inches deep, and the rudder is very large (in terms of horizonal dimensions) and extends around an inch deeper than the skeg, by the looks of it.

I wouldn't have thought the keel stayed deep all the way under the boat, as that would have meant she tilted over to one side when beached. There was probably a piece of wood 1 inch deep which protected the hog (the main 'backbone' of the boat) and acted in a sacrificial way when dragged along stones or sand.
