Sailing

A few years ago I spent a deal of time building a small Norwegian Pram. I had called her the Mary Anne after my grandmother and wife, but once I had four daughters I decided on a more PC name for a boat - Buccaneer - name of my first boat.

I took her out in about 5 knots at the weekend in fresh water - she does not plane so she is limited by her effective water line length. The 16 foot skiffs were passing me at about twice the speed, but they all asked about her background.

I left the skeg off her and she is nimble on the turn - to nimble actually - she has only been in the water once so she leaked a little.

I set the lug sail badly and had to drop and do a Dick by myself, not easy in a narrow shallow dinghy away from the shore. lug sails without stays are much better - I am about to build the third mast - - need to fix the position of the stays - only sailed it twice in light breezes - she needs a lighter boom as well

Lot of fun - wish Ed was here to enjoy it with me
