In the illustration, "Do you surrender", it seems that the centerboard is between two thwarts and also extends roughly half way towards the next thwart. However, when looking at the photographs of the "Amazon" in the museum, (alais "Mavis") the centerboard is between two thwarts but does not extend beyoun either. Not sure what the source was when the drawing was made, but it is definitely different.

Don't remember who posted those photos of the museum display, but for me in Kentucky, USA, I just don't get around to the Lake District to go look for myself, so thanks to whoever it was who posted those series of photos of the "Amazon".

Amazing FICTION Ransome created for us - after a while, it takes on the semblance of reality, and we search for the REAL places, the REAL boats.

Those fictional friends of my childhood will forever be the best of friends to me. I am glad Ransome introduced them to me.
