While I am in no way decrying today's use of safety equipment or built-in flotation or anything else that might increase safety on board, the fact is that some traditionalists (including myself) prefer to do things the way they used to be done.
To this end, Aileen Louisa carried no flotation at all (whether built-in or as inflated bags under thwarts); moreover, she was ballasted with sandbags to lower her freeboard, and whenever I sailed her I didn't use a life-jacket.
