That was the best I could do at the time. The pub looks as if it was likely to have been built post -Big Six, I thought. Maybe the book spawned the pubs — one more in Swindon and another in Eire, I think!
AR might have known the Clacton Donkey, if it was so named in the 30s, but neither his diary nor his log makes mention of a visit.
Knowing that AR had a real feel for Norfolk-speak, I think the one I mentioned has for me a sort of ring of truth, if you know what I mean.
